What are Unity's basic teachings?
Unity is more of a philosophy or a way of life than a religion. The Unity Movement was founded with the idea of creating churches as spiritual discovery centers. In this vision, there is an expansiveness, inclusiveness and openness to this ministry. Our church recognizes and embraces many aspects and expressions of diversity. We honor that there different paths leading to Truth and to the energy of God. We also honor diversity in each others’ heritage and culture.
The journey to discovery is a process which happens at different times and in different ways for each of us. We encourage people to explore and apply principles and teaching according to their own spiritual understanding and at their own pace.
Love and Prayer are the keys to this work.
The five basic ideas that Unity invites you to consider are:
• God is the One presence and power in the Universe and in our Lives.
• The spirit or energy of God is active within each person. We have the
power to realize this spark of Divinity and live in and through it.
• We create our lives through the consciousness we hold. Thoughts
held in our minds produce our experience and perception of life. We
have the power to change our minds.
• The way to access the highest consciousness within us is through
prayer and meditation. Prayer is the affirmation of principles and beliefs
based on truth. Meditation is a time of listening to the “still small voice”
of God.
• We follow our inner guidance in how to manifest and express these principles. It is important to walk our talk.
